Number One
I'm writing from my lovely hand-me-down sofa bed, in my drafty East Vancouver apartment. I'm wrapped in a blanket, and forcing myself not to turn on the heat. Bellow me I can hear cars slipping through the rain-soaked street.
Many people hate how wet Vancouver can be but today I couldn't help myself. I was smiling as the rain hit my jacket, my fingers curled inside Alicia's palm, our hands inside her warm coat pocket. We walked all the way to Trout Lake for a picnic. It was lovely walking through the damp fields to the covered picnic area, listening to the birds in the marsh. A heron was chilling out on the floating dock where kids dive off of in the summer. I saw joggers, a gym class, dog-walkers, parents with toddlers, bikers... busy day for a rainy lake.
Sometimes when it's cold like this, I breathe deeper. The air is fresh with spring, chill with rain, I'm full of life again. I had a hot chocolate at Tree's on Granville, I got as hyper as I do when I've had coffee. Is that the Spring air too? I feel antsy. Or maybe it's just that I can't wait to hear about India.
I'm waiting to hear if I'm moving to India next month. To teach Digital Animation at Explora. If I get this position, I'll be leaving behind the cold, Alicia, my family, and my friends for an entire year. I'll be gaining the chance to live in another culture. To call another city home.
The best part is that I find out this Friday if I made the cut.
